Challenge Workshop: Mathematical Modeling and Optimization of Future Energy Grids

Agenda

Inspired by the topical network “Energy and Resources” of the Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften (acatech), the participants of the KoMSO members’ meeting in September 2012 decided to hold a Challenge Workshop on mathematical modeling and optimization of the energy transformation. During a discussion about this topic with Prof. Dr. Eberhard Umbach, Dr.-Ing. Karl-Friedrich Ziegahn and further members of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) the suggestion was made to address this problem – in a first step – in the area of energy grids. The workshop served as a first approach between work groups from the power industry as well as representatives of applied mathematics to further promote the creation of a network in the area of mathematic modeling and optimization.
